jOLLy eMMy's little world::It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves:: October 18 Here I amHere I am.
After a whole new advanture, I started to feel a little tired. It was about a year ago when I typed in the last blog. I was switching jobs. Here I am again, going to change to another job in about 3 weeks.
I am glad that I am still staying in the path, it's just walking it differently.....
What's ahead of me? I don't know. Gotta try it before knowing it, right?
This time I try to shovel.
Here I come! August 10 ChoicesLife is full of choices.
I especially like one of the quotes “When it snows, you have two choices: shovel or make snow angels”.
Recently I got into a situation where I have a chance to choose my career path again. Yup, AGAIN. I’ve chosen to make snow angels this time!
Ten months ago, when I was between jobs, I choose to be stable and easy life. 9-5 working life is a bit too plain for me, I needed excitement and advancement. People in this job are extremely friendly and had given me much opportunities. However, I started to ponder about where my job is going to bring me to. With a few NOs from my answer, I decided to generate more choices and look for a change.
It was an unexpected golden opportunity to have an offer from a company which could offer me a job which could fulfill my desire to learn, to explore, to enjoy, and to “be alive”. I took this offer right away.
I’m still not sure if I had made the right choice. I’m not young, can’t afford much mistakes. My new job is going to start in about 2 weeks. Crossing my fingers and hope for the best! July 23 Qingming Riverside-- the danceQingming Riverside is an interest piece of work from the Song Dynasty. It’s length and the details are far more than just interesting; the painting was arranged carefully with scenes of daily life along the riverside.
Not having any luck to see the painting, but managed to see HKDC performing the dance makes me feel better.
The dance transformed this Song scroll into rhythms and movements; a combination of Chinese and Modern dance presented by 6 lead dancers in 15 scenes. My favorite piece of work is the scene where the boatmen gathered in the middle of the stage with power, and heavy rhythms. Even with this is the "lover" scene, a very nice use of the "floating umbrellas" as props created a dimension for the stage. My second favorite scene is the appearance if the River Goddess- pretty to watch.
My very own instinct tells me that this piece of dance should stick to traditional staging with minimal multimedia effects. It was quite disappointing when I saw the use of slide projected onto the backdrop to present the holy ring of light. Would the usage of the light panel do the similar effect by using the foil and "zoom"?
I think the "worship of the Goddess" is my least favorite scene. Besides the use of the slide, I also have a comment on the costume of the "goddess bystanders". Seems to me that they dressed like the maids who are working for the wizard at the dragon-guarded towers!
About the guest performer- a canton pop singer, she sang 2 songs which are totally not my taste anyways. So, I don’t have any further comment.
The scene design was great! The bridge, which is the main focus of the painting, is there! The side wings are into great details; nice! Watching this dance was like watching the "summary" of the painting. I am so glad to see this painting was brought onto stage and expressed with real people! :)
June 01 Re-union Dinner
many flash backs during the re-union dinner last night. scenes of classroom, presentation, drinking, birthday party, farewells, exam, group discussion, yum cha, career day, leadership trip, graduation …… they’re all good. During the dinner, professor S asked if his course was hard. None of us would say no, as his courses were demanding and needed a lot of time to prepare for. But the thing is, we all enjoyed his courses and appreciated his intentions. Reason is quite simple indeed, because he teaches with his heart. We exchanged business cards, and professor S got promoted. I truly am happy for him! It was a happy day (which matches the back-drop, ha!)
May 29 half empty or half full ?
No one ever wanted to be disgraced. I didn’t want to make a fuss over such a trifle, but I felt disgraced. A saying which had became a wound for me might not mean anything for most people. Why is it a wound? I don’t know; it takes some time to heal. Every individual owns a set of standards; interpretation of the same object varies. Is the glass half empty or half full? Most of us could write down the rest of the question after hearing the first few words. Some schools classified people into the categories: optimism (half full) and pessimism (half empty). For me, there is no absolute answer to this question; seeing it half empty or half full depends on my current physiological status. There is always a reason to it. Do you see the glass half empty or half full now?
